An Awakened FB01-036-trunks-future can bounce Battle cards with a cost of 3 or less back into hand. This can mess up opponents' tempo by returning their Battle cards and slowing down their game plan. Additionally, you can utilize this ability to return your own Battle cards, enabling you to replay them and gain more value.

Think of FB01-036-trunks-future as a deck that aims to prevent the opponent from taking over the board presence in the early to mid-game. The Leader's ability, along with various cards in the deck can return the opponent's Battle cards to their hand or deck. It's crucial to keep track of your hand size as certain cards require you to have a hand of 7 cards or less to activate their effects.

This deck has access to a lot of card draws, so running out of value can be difficult. A lot of value means more Combo plays! With the value you create, you'll stretch out games until all your pieces are in place. Once the mid-game hits, you can shit to a more aggressive approach and set up for your late-game finishing play.

Early Value

These are your low-cost value draw cards to set up the mid-game or create a stronger late turn. They don't offer any offensive value but can be used as Combo cards to protect your Leader or Battle cards.

You can get more value out of those cards by returning them with Leader FB01-036-trunks-future ability. This lets you replay them to get an additional draw. It works best in slow matchups where card value becomes important.

The Early Starters

Trunks: Youth and Son Goten are valuable early cards with unique abilities. Let's talk about Trunks: Youth first, the +10,000 Power boost when you have 7 or fewer cards in hand is crucial to either kill high Power Battle cards or to target the Leader and force out Combo cards. He can find use even in the late game, as the 25,000 Power can still threaten an awakened Leader and force a 10,000 Combo.

As for Son Goten, he has two jobs in the deck, returning 1/2 cost pesky Battle cards to the opponent's hand, slowing down their board development and taking 1 Life from your Leader to force a level up. You won't always have to take a Life card; it's more of a situational play if you need that level-up ability and aren't threatened by an aggressive opponent.

Ideally, avoid returning cards that can generate value for your opponent. Instead, prioritize removing an attacker that might force out your Combo cards or a blocker that's making it difficult for you to set up an attack.

The Midgame Pressure

3c Vegeta can be bothersome for opponents with his 25,000 Power and the ability to switch to Active Mode at the end of the turn. This does come with the condition of having 7 cards or fewer in your hand, so be mindful of that to keep Vegeta safe from attackers.

As for 3c Trunks: Future, he's a valuable removal tool for 5c or less Batlle cards. Outside of FS02-16-final-flash, the Blue Trunks deck doesn't have reliable tools to deal with 5c threats like FS01-08-son-goku or FS04-03-golden-frieza, so returning them back to the opponent's hand can relieve you from their finishing play and force opponents to spend Energy to replay them.

4c Vegeta significantly changes the game's pace with his ability to attack twice. Think of him as a mini FS03-10-broly-br. With 20,000 Power he can damage awakened Leaders and pressure them to use Combo cards.

A 2-cost 30,000 Power attacker that can either KO an opponent's Battle card or threaten their life. At the end of the turn, it will be placed at the bottom of your deck. However, with Leader FB01-036-trunks-future's ability, you can return it to your hand. The synergy allows you to get more out of 2c Trunks, potentially setting up two attacks with it in one turn or getting the 10,000 Combo value.

The Heavy Hitters

Goku Black is one of your strongest late-game plays that offer value and offensive threat. Make sure you have 7 or fewer cards in hand before playing Black Goku as you'll want to activate the free Battle card play, dropping a FB01-058-vegeta, FB01-050-trunks-future, or FB01-059-vegeta for added pressure. The state of the game will dictate which card you find more valuable to have on the board.

If your opponent is down to two health, 5c Vegeta is likely the ideal play to set up the Double Strike win condition. You'll need to back it up with a bunch of Combo cards to ensure the Double Strike goes through.

Extra Cards

Final Flash is a low-cost Extra to deal with 5-cost Battle cards. Your deck has access to a lot of value so you're fine getting rid of one card from hand to set up the removal play.

Sinister Sickle finds use against decks capable of going wide like yellow, returning those Battle cards to the deck can put their aggression in check. It might not find use in some matchups, especially if you're adopting an aggressive approach.

Mai Future comes in handy if you're looking to Awaken real quick. If she remains on the board, she's offering a card draw every time you recall an opponent's Battle card. The Mai effect doesn't only work with your Leader's ability but also with cards like FS02-06-son-goten and FB01-050-trunks-future

Mostly for 20,000 Power boost to set up a finisher play with Double Strike FS02-13-vegeta.

General Tips

  • Keep track of your hand size. A lot of your cards require you to have 7 or fewer cards in hand for their effect to activate. You can use cards as Combo plays to drop the number of cards in hand. You also might need to activate card effects before you Awaken/Attack with your leader since you'll draw cards and could end up with more than 7 cards in hand.
  • Return your own cards for more value. You can draw more cards with FB01-056-pilaf or FS02-08-trunks-youth if you replay them. You can also return cards to use them as Combo to set up a stronger attack.
  • Don't always take a Life card with FS02-06-son-goten or FS02-09-trunks-youth. You might need extra health for some matchups to give you more time to set up your game plan.
  • If you're looking to set up the final play, make sure you play your value cards like FB01-056-pilaf or FS02-08-trunks-youth, draw more Combo cards, and then use everything as Combo to set up a stronger attack.

Mulligan

FS02-08-trunks-youth and FS02-06-son-goten are two early cards you want to have in the opening hand. FB01-058-vegeta and FB01-059-vegeta shape up your mid-game until the big hitters drop. Keep FB01-050-trunks-future if you're up against Green to deal with a FB01-087-son-goku on the spot.

Important Matchups

Green Broly

  • Build up a board and try to aggro them down to Awaken as fast as possible. This limits the card draw value they'll have.
  • Use up Combo resources to keep important units with 25,000 Power alive if possible. An Awakened FS03-01-broly can be difficult to go through so you'll need cards like 3c FB01-058-vegeta, 2c FB01-049-trunks-future, and 2c FS02-08-trunks-youth.
  • Use 3c FB01-050-trunks-future to deal with their 5c Battle cards like FB01-087-son-goku or FS03-04-turles.
  • You can't deal with FB01-078-android-17android-18[card] or [card]FS03-10-broly-br[card]. Try to ignore them and focus on striking down [card]FS03-01-broly. You have a lot of Combo plays to survive until you set up the lethal.

Green Gohan

  • This matchup plays out similarly to the Broly matchup, however, FB01-059-vegeta is way more valuable here as he puts pressure on their Leader even when Awakened.

Yellow Ginyu

  • They can set up aggressive attacks with a wide board of 20,000 Power Battle cards.
  • Son Goten can help slow down their board development by returning a Battle card to their hand.
  • FB01-068-sinister-sickle will find value in this matchup.
  • FB01-050-trunks-future is also a solid play to shift the board's presence in your favor.
  • They want to set up multiple attacks with Leader FB01-104-ginyu's ability. This does force them to discard two cards from hand. If you make sure they don't win the board, they won't have a good opportunity to set up that play.

Red Beerus

  • You're up against 20,000 Power Beerus with Critical that wants to target your Leader any chance they get.
  • You can outvalue your opponent if you manage to prolong the game. A Black Goku can be difficult for them to deal with.
  • Frost can be a problem since he shuts down attackers like Son Goten, Future Trunks, and Vegeta. You can return him with your Leader Trunk's ability to get rid of the effect.
  • FB01-059-vegeta can pick off the FB01-004-whis.
  • FS02-16-final-flash or FB01-050-trunks-future are solid answers for FS01-08-son-goku.
  • Vegeta can deal with key cards like 4c FB01-139-son-goku and 4c FS01-09-son-gohan-adolescence.

Red Goku U7

  • Goku U7 wants to build up a wide board and buff everything by 5,000 Power with their Awakened Leader's ability.
  • Focus on KOing their Battle cards to tone down their aggression.
  • FB01-068-sinister-sickle will find value in this matchup, especially when dealing with FB01-139-son-goku.
  • FS02-16-final-flash or FB01-050-trunks-future are solid answers for FS01-08-son-goku.

Closing Words

Although Blue hasn't been the best-performing color in the game, I've found success with Blue Trunks, especially since players don't have much experience going up against it. The deck's flexibility to switch between board control or aggression brings out the skill impression of the player and gives different experiences in each game.
