Shallot Starter Deck Ex [FS09]: Guide, Card List, Upgrade

Cards, spoilers, and set details.

The fact FS09-01 does not draw early on is a huge limitation for the entire deck. Indeed, until you manage to awaken, something you are forced to work towards if you don't want to quickly be behind on cards, you basically cannot attack with a battle card. If you do, the opponent will happily use it as a target, and keep you high on health as a result. Already, this defeats the point of including certain early cards we get in this starter deck, such as FS09-13.

We have a few cards to help us reach 4 health in FS09-12 and FB06-103. Yet, these don't really help with setting up the board early, nor do they create the precious energy marker in case we would go first.

There is that perfect scenario: We go second, play FS09-12 on turn one and place a 6-cost as the third card on top of our deck. Then, we have FB04-105 on turn two, followed by summoning our 6-cost card on turn three thanks to the energy marker. Suddenly, the deck looks bonkers, pressuring the opponent a ton with at least one card they can barely do a thing about.

Even in that great scenario, we are stuck. If we attack with our battle cards, we better draw three more cards to deal our leader some damage, let's say two if the opponent was nice and attacked us at least once. If we don't attack with our battle cards, the fantastic start goes to waste, as we give our opponent time to regroup and catch up on the board.

The fact we are forced to play a certain way to avoid falling behind on cards makes the new Black leader quite limited at the moment. The potential is there, as summoning 6-cost cards is a strong ability. Yet, it is ruined by the fact we are almost always behind on cards. Then, the fantastic start we discussed isn't a high roll, it's a necessity for FS09-01 to thrive.
